100% Brave. 100% Shave. 100% Cure.
Since 2009, Be Brave and Shaves have been hosted throughout the Washington, DC metro area to help fight childhood cancer at Children’s National Medical Center.
THANK YOU to all of our Heroes!
What is “Be Brave and Shave”?
· Local police, firefighters, private schools, sports teams, and patient families have hosted shave events to raise funds and awareness for the cancer research program at Children’s National.
· Organizations register for personal fundraising pages through FirstGiving.com, and ask friends, family and people in the community to donate money to the cause.
· Participants then shave their heads at the final shave event, celebrating their fundraising success and symbolically joining children who lose their hair because of chemotherapy.
· Local hair salon staff, and sometimes even hospital staff, line up behind shavees and chant “1, 2, 3, Be Brave and Shave!” and then the razors roar and the hair starts flying!
· The mission of this program is to show support for the children fighting cancer at Children’s National- to show that they have advocates in the community that will fundraise on their behalf and be brave enough to lose their hair for the cause.
